Snow crystals

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I was looking at some marhowie macros, feeling jealous of his year-round warm weather. So the best I could do was go out in the backyard and snap one of these -- snow crystals on a plant.
PP: Some sensor dust cloned out, hard work on the contrast adjustment, a resize and frame, and USM. |

Hi Mike,
An interesting shot, plenty of detail to look at although even at f/29 the DOF is shallow! I think the shot is underexposed, often the case when photographing snow. As far as the camera is concerned, everything is a mid-grey and it will try to expose as such. Hence when you take a shot of something white the camera will underexpose to reach that mid-tone. If you look at this with squinted eyes you will see that it is all a mid-grey. For subjects like this, if you meter from the snow you should overexpose between 1 and 2 stops to achieve a correct exposure. I posted a workshop with the levels adjusted just short of the point before the histogram becomes clipped which should be about right, see what you think.
Even though you're envious of Howard in Texas, I'm in Texas and quite envious that you get to photograph snow :-)
Best regards,
Adrian
Belle photo, ces christaux sont jolis, bien nets. Amicalement Thomas

Nice details, and I think the exposure is spot on. Not one blown Highlite. DOF is nice drawong attention to the crystals in the foreground. Great shot.
Amazing detail and sharp.
I love this picture
