A while back I posted a landscape of Sofa Mountain reflected in a pond, well this is the owner of the pond. I arrived before dawn and got set up, I could hear him working away at something so I knew he was around. As the sun came up I could see him patrolling his pond and hoped he would come close enough for a good shot, the first time he did there wasn't enough light, but finally he came by and I got my chance.

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Mammalia

Order: Rodentia

Family: Castoridae

Genus: Castor
Linnaeus, 1758

Species
C. canadensis
C. fiber

Beavers are semi-aquatic rodents native to North America and Europe. They are the only living members of the family Castoridae, which contains a single genus, Castor. Genetic research has shown the European and North American beaver populations to be distinct species and that hybridization is unlikely.

Beavers are best known for their natural trait of building dams in rivers and streams, and building their homes (lodges) in the eventual pond. They are the second-largest rodent in the world (after the capybara).

Beavers continue to grow throughout life. Adult specimens weighing over 25 kg (55 lb) are not uncommon. Females are as large as or larger than males of the same age, which is uncommon among mammals.

Nice to meet the owner of this pond. Fine shot of the swimming beaver, his head and the round eye showing up well together with a fine reflection all part of a sharp and well-composed presentation.

Bonjour Rick
Très belle image de ce beau petit castor.Très joli la composition et le détails de l'animal sont réussis.
Bravo et merci....JP

Hi Rick, great shot of this guy at work. The composition is very good with good colour and detail. With that bow wave you captured he seems to be "bulldozing" his way through the water, with that wet head of his. Great note.

Thanks, John
