Hi Jay,
While I am at it, I critique this one as well. The feel to this photo is wonderful. But, I have to be honest. There are some points that need improvement. You have a rather heavy pincusion distortion in this photo. This can be fixed. The sun is too bright the center is even OE. Underexposing or using a grad filter would have helped. But, it would have been better to wait for a more setting sun, this would also eliminate de glare. The composition is too centered. Both the horizon and sun are too much in the center of the photo. This kind of shot really needs to be more balance. The silhoutte of the trees and rock could use a some USM.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Jay,
Hello Jay, I have to agree and disagree with Niek, The compisation is wonderful He is referring to the Rule of the third, That is a guide for you ut all photo teacher and great Photogophers will tell you that rules are made to be broken. So the compoisation IMO is great. The lighting I like the one thing I see is using Smart sharpen instead of USM would do the photo justis
This is a lovely sunset, Jay, for all that the shallow dof does leave the foreground a little too soft.
Wonderful colours, excellent composition

Hi Jay
A little bit of history, some geography, a dash of anthropology, and even a tad on technology. Your note chronicles a vast span of time in the annals of Newfoundland while it touches on the subject of adverse human activity. It seems like there is not a day you could take a photo that included the sky without having some "artificial cirrus clouds made by the exhaust of aircraft engines or wingtip vortices which precipitate a stream of tiny ice crystals in moist, frigid upper air" (quote courtesy of Wikipedia).
Maybe it’s true what Niek said about the core of the sun being OE, but I think it actually fitted in nicely with this shot of extremes. Extremes in the sense of the beauty of nature vs the rape of man, the very bright and warm sun vs the darkish sky, the radiant and intense solar reflection vs the dimly lit ocean, and amidst all this light and darkness the pitch black silhouette of the land in the foreground. The colours are fine and so is the composition. There is even a noticeable curve in the horizon of the ocean.
Well done and TFS.

HI Jay,
I like this one and even though some might not care for the iris bleed through,I think that adds character. The contrails only prove that no matter where in this world you might be,you are really never very far from civilization.Nice composition with a good point of view. Bob
Hoi Sjaak,
Schitterende natuur foto met de lage zon en de weerspiegeling in het water, samen met de donkere silhouetten in de voorgrond. Mooi gedaan.
Groeten,
John.
Hello Jay,
Lovely sunset capture.I liked POV,warm colors, sunrays and it's reflections an water and visual impact a lot.
TFS...:-)
BEAUTIFUL!!!
You have captured a great shot; a sunset, the
radiating spokes of the sun's rays, the sparkling diamonds of the water and the cloud bank that will soon swallow up the sun............
Makes me want to go to Newfoundland!!

Hi Jay.
I like your unusual and expressive landscape. Very interesting colour effects have been taken by you. Rocks, sea and sky with sun are looked nicely. Only images of sun path and sun are OE a bit. But this is problem for each photographer. My best wishes and TFS.
Alexei.

Hi Jay. This is a classic from your northerly part of America. The sun is ideally position and the scene well presnted and framed. TFS. Murray.
