Un pic spectaculaire, grand comme une corneille, à la huppe rouge vif.
La femelle a le front noirâtre et n'a pas de rouge à la moustache. La grande taille et les battements profonds des ailes, découvrant du blanc dessous, distinguent ce pic en vol.
Les grands trous ovales ou oblongs creusés dans les arbres indiquent sa présence.

The details of your photo are so compelling - with the fluffy neck, the bird looks like a Walt Disney's toy! Where did you see / photograph this beauty - also in your garden?

Your photographic technique is absolutely perfect.

Did you know, that Woodpecker have specially protected,cushioned brains, to stop them getting concussion!?! And this is NOT a joke!!
