[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Yucca carnerosana is a large imposing plant, often mistaken for Yucca faxoniana which mainly grows in Texas. Y.carnerosana can reach up to 4-8 m and usually has a single trunk which, when trimmed has a average diameter of 20-30 cm. The trunk is dark brown with irregular furrows. Sometimes the plant branches after flowering (when about 1-2 m high), developing mostly only two heads growing close together. Branched trunks are rare. The green leaves are 40-70 cm long and 5 cm in width, but in cultivation they can reach a length of 100 cm forming a symmetrical head. The leaf margin shows a brown line from which thick, curling white filaments are growing. The panicle is 100-120 cm long, and usually towering above the leaves. The flower stalk is 5-8 cm thick and the green-white flowers are 5-8 cm long. Y.carnerosana is found in two regions, that are wide apart from each other. The northern region extends from western Texas into the Mexican states Chihuahua and Coahuila. The southern region is found in the Mexican states of Nuevo Leon, San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas Y. Carnerosana is cold hardy from -12 till -15° C when kept dry. In cool wet winter climates it is better to protect the crown against rain, because it is sensitive to rotting. Our observations show that Y.carnerosana from the southern region are less cold hardy than the specimen from western Texas and the bordering areas in the state of Coahuila and Chihuahua. The difference is significant and for outdoor planting in cold climates we recommend the Texas- North Coahuila varieties. Most importers and distributors of desert Yucca's in Europe sell the southern Mexican variety of Y.carnerosana. And very often they are sold under the name Yucca faxoniana…

House finches are posed in this beautiful desert plant.

This is an image which I would have liked to see....I have a couple of similar which are in the bushes and also with finches...but there was no sun on my day....and you have a better contrasting colour difference between the finches and the bush/shrub. A unique and slightly artsy approach. Well received as well as nice notations.

Hi Luis!

You present us a wonderful picture. It's amazing to see these birds on that fan-shaped plant. I like the impression of swords pointing to the sky offering a resting place for the birds. The picture has both a surprising and a humerous effect.

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Luis.
I have some species of yucca in my garden. However, it is small species. Yours is amazing and its visitors are fine too. Simply wonderful scene and superb quality of its reproduction. Birds, leaves, cloudy sky, bright sunlight all these attractive objects are reflected perfectly. My compliments and TFS.

Hello Luis,
This is nicely done. You must have had some patience to approach the yucca without disturbing the finches. I find them to be difficult to approach. Do you think the yucca gives them a sense of security?
Regards,

Greg

Hi Luis, an excellent capture of these beauties on a Yucca from a nice POV with fine composition and details.
TFS and have a nice WE!

Hallo Luis
What a beautiful and almost artistic presentation. Something different, definitely filled with character and the most wonderful colours that complement each other well. Just love the way the birds are all facing different directions, as if they are standing guard. Thanks for sharing this special image. It is images like these that people notice, because it is so much different to all the other, one bird or one flower presentations.
Best regards
Anna

Hello Luis,
Long time, no see, right?
How are you?
Thanks for your kind words on my flowers picture. I am sorry I'm late in reciprocating.
This is a marvellous image of so many House Finches perched on a plant which grows in India too.
The combination of male and female birds makes it a colourful composition.
Thanks and regards.
