The name of this cactus in Spanish is "asiento de suegra" which means "mother-in-law's chair". I suppose
that mothers-in-law throughout the world are subject to such derisive and "pointed" epithets. Most of them don't deserve it. Mine did!
The Latin name is Echinocactus grusonii.
Each one of these cacti measures approximately 30 cm in diameter, which would accomodate about half of your average mother-in-law's "derrière"! |
