[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Cyrtonix montezumae, uncommon across its range in North Mexico and South US. We found a small flock, while driving on a back road of Chihuahua. The species is usually very secretive, however this guy in particular was the sentinel for his flock, While the rest keep feeding and hiding on the grass, this one stood still and looked for threats. Allowing us to take several pictures of him.

I really like the head pattern wich makes me think of a mime or an harlequin.

Hello Simon,
I just discovered that you have so many most beautiful butterflies in your gallery. And looking for this bird-picture I was surprised to find such a magnificent plumage, perfectely adapted for camouflage. Very natural and most beautiful shot.
