Turkey vulture sunbathing

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Turkey Vultures are often seen standing in a spread-winged stance. This is sometimes referred as the "horaltic pose" although nobody knows the origin of “horaltic” and some people think it could be a misspelling of “heraldic”. Exactly why turkey vultures take on that pose is not known either. It is believed to serve multiple functions: drying the wings, warming the body, getting rid of bacteria.
In a Workshop, I posted a photo of three turkey vultures in the same pose. The image is more interesting but unfortunately not as sharp as I would have liked. |

Hi Daniel,
Magnificent capture of this t. vulture from the wild!
I like a lot the pose got with the wings partially up, showing us the clear feathers at the end.
We can make a good idea of the large size of the palm tree over its alighted.
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,
JM

Hello Daniel,
A rally fine shot of the Turkey Vulture subathing.
Never got around to seeing one.
The environment created by the palm leaves is quite appealing. The sunlight does highlight the red speckles over the vulture's body. Good details.
Well done.
