Caterpillar Agraulis Vanillae.

The blackish brown caterpillar with orange lines and white points, possesses ramified thorns. The adult is of 72 mm of expansion eaves, and it possesses wings color orange with stains dark chestnut tree. In the inferior part of the wings silver stains can be observed, of there their name vulgar butterfly mirror. Passifloraceas attacks.

This insect of brilliant colors reminds many people the butterfly king, and the same as the king, the butterfly of spotted wings of the Gulf is poisonous for the predators that you/they can want to devour it. The marks of orange and black color (the same as the target and black, yellow and black, and red and black) they are the universal colors of warning in the animal Kingdom. These colors allow to potential predators to know that they will complain if they try to devour the animal of brilliant colors.

The butterfly of spotted wings of the Gulf is poisonous; he/she obtains their poison of the pasionaria that is the only plant of which feeds the caterpillar. The same as the tropical group of called butterflies "helicónidas", the butterfly of spotted wings lives a maximum of six months. This is a lot of time for a butterfly; most of the species only live as adults some weeks.

Muy bonito con los detalles agradables. Veo que tienes cierta colección de la larva también. Es bueno que podemos asociar la larva a la mariposa del adulto de sus photographies.

Hi Ricardo you come up with another good caterpillar shot today. very sharp and clear, and I like his colours. The twig is a bit OE, maybe from the flash, but still a good composition. Well done. TFS.

Another very good caterpillar shot! The colors look great, and I love the black backround to make him standout. I agree with Janice that the flash has slightly over exposed the branch. Very sharp detail, and great notes. Well done!

Muy linda foto de esta oruga, pero creo que en partes está sobreexpuesta. Tampoco ayuda el fondo oscuro a resaltar las "púas". Bueno, a veces hay que aprovechar igual y tomar las fotos esten donde esten los animales.
