Diagnostic Description: It measures 61 cm. and weight 1,1 kgs. It is a great and robust migratory duck of legs color orange. The male adult is of green, separated bright head of the brown chest by a thin white ring. The body is mainly gray pale and the tip is yellow. The female is speckled and flaking with anteado and blackish coffee, with the black tip and orange. Anas clypeata have the great tip much more, a bluish gray spot in the wing and a greenish mirror.



Habitat: Evidently he was more feasible to find it in fresh water pools and marshes.


Feeding: The food is mainly fed when taking from the surface or to turn to sink the head and to aim upwards with the tail; it consumes vegetal material and few aquatic invertebrates.


Distribution: They reproduce from Alaska and the north of Canada to the E.U.A south. They hibernate towards the south until the central part of Mexico; at the moment it is rare that it descends more to the south. In the past and rare form (although regularly) one extended until Panama. Its disappearance in probably reflected Centroamerica the changes in the agricultural practices, as well as the increase, in this century, of abundant habitats for invernación in the E.U.A south. and Mexico. It is of ample distribution in the Old World.

Hello Ricardo, it's a nice pose but there is quite a bit of overexposure here, mainly on the neck and beak. The lighting is quite harsh too. I like the slightly open beak. Well done.

A difficult shot in the harsh light, but you did a good job. Some OE in the white plumage of the neck caused loss of detail. The colors and detail look excellent otherwise. Nice portrait shot.

The details are nice, clear and sharp.
Good colours, lighting looks a bit harsh and the whites are over exposed. DOF is spot on and the POV is good.

Otro de tus lindos retratos de aves, que veo que es tu nuevo tema. Los detalles son muy buenos así como de costumbre lo es la nota.
Solo creo que en algunas partecitas está sobreexpuesta, pero no es un gran problema.

Il m'arrive souvent de photographier un canard Colvert (Mallard) mais je ne pense jamais capturer surtout la tête comme vous avez fait ici. Ceci nous fait voir de très beaux détails des couleurs dans son plumage. Merci pour ce gros plan.

Very nice head shot Ricardo I like a duck portrait. I would try for a lesser shutter speed and try and avoid the OE in white areas and highlights. :)
