Nelumbo Lutea, American Lotus. The large seeds of this emergent aquatic plant were a food item for native Americans, and they reportedly extended its range(originally the southeastern United States, Mexico, Honduras, and the West Indies)as they planted it in suitable spots in order to have a convenient source of seed for food.

This image was shot using my Sigma 70-300 APO macro zoom with a Kenko 2X converter, effective focal length of 900mm on my D70, on a Giotto monopod with Manfrotto head. NEF capture, converted and optimized in ACR, Photoshop CS2, resized for upload in Photoshop Elements 3.

Hi John, Welcome to TN. These are one of my favorite flowers as many lotus in Asia but this colour is special. Good clarity and colours. TFS. Murray.

Hello John,
Very nice capture of this lotus, good details of the petals and good management of depth to burr the bg.
Regards,
Jusni

Hi John,
Beautiful flower. Very nice capture of this sp. of Nelumbo. The sp. common in India is Nelumbo nucifera, the pink lotus. Although, we find mention of 'shwet-kamal' (white lotus) in some old Indian literature.

- Nirmal

Hi John,
very beautiful photography... It looks like there is a light in the lotus: impressing. Lighting and the composition are superb.

Fred

Hello john,
I really like lotus and water lily. i havent seen this one. It is really lovely with soft colour rendition. The sharpness and clarity is great. The background helps it to be very outstanding.
Beautifully composed.
