| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Monarda fistulosa, Wild Bergamot, a native perennial in the Lamiaceae or Labiatae family, found over most of North America. The pale purple to pinkish-purple flowers are very showy, and combined with its ease of cultivation, have made this plant a fairly popular garden flower. They grow to a height of about 2-3 feet.
Its leaves are strongly aromatic and can be used to make a tea. The leaves were reportedly used by native Americans to make a hair dressing.
Where I live, this is mainly a plant of grasslands, prairies in this case. This is another of my favorite prairie plants, even though it is fairly common. |
