Swamp Milkweed, normal color
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Going along with my last posting, white-flowered Swamp Milkweed, Asclepias incarnata, I thought it might be nice to show the colony of normally colored flowers where the white ones were found. This is the color that you'd expect to see in Asclepias incarnata.
These are growing in an area that is under water for most of the winter and well into spring usually, so it's obvious that this species likes damp feet. The name Swamp Milkweed is a bit of a misnomer though, as this plant prefers open marshes and wet grassland over swamps, which are wooded wetlands, as is evidenced at this site where they number in the thousands. This shot shows just a portion of the colony which covers at least 2 acres.
I posted a different photo yesterday by mistake, meant to post this one, so I deleted the first one. |

A lovely shot, John.
I wish we had acres of flowers like this out here, too!
Bravo!

Hello John,
You captured exceptional DOF in this beauty of a shot. The detail and colors are very eye catching. I have never seen such a vast sea of milkweed in all my years!
Ron
Hi John,
Nice shot of bogland flowers, although I don't understand why it's in "Fungi" category.
Best wishes, László
(out of smileys for today, sorry)
Very nice scene John,
Very good POV, nice colors. Good shallow DOF. Anazing presentation.
