| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I took my youngest daughter on a hike at Loblolly Marsh Wetlands Preserve over the weekend, located near Bryant, Indiana. We pulled into the parking lot and received a warm welcome from a couple of blue herons who were gliding overhead.
As we walked the path around the marsh, there were (no kidding!) literally hundreds of small frogs and toads that quickly jumped to safety in the tall grasses and meadow plants as we approached. Most of these little creatures escaped before I could get a decent picture, but I got lucky with this one. My foot stepped right in front of this frog before it could jump, blocking it's route of escape.
I wish I had done a better job composing this picture. I could do without the harsh lighting on the plant in front of the frog's leg. But, having had such difficulty photographing frogs on this particular day (they all jumped away before I could compose the shot), I was pleased just to get a few snaps of this one before he jumped.
The day was very warm and humid; had it been a more pleasant day, we would have stayed much longer and perhaps gotten some better shots.
Once again, I am at the mercy of those who know something about the creatures I have posted to TrekNature. Any details on species ID are welcome and appreciated. |
