European Paper Wasp (Polistes dominula)
another shot from my frendly wasp photo shoot..
these gals have found a home under the siding of my house and spend a lot of time on the plants in my garden .. I caught this gal just as she was to fly off.. she seemed to give me a salute to wish me luck ..
over the years I have never been stung by any of the wasps ..
This potentially aggressive paper wasp hides its nest in voids and other enclosures, thus increasing the risk for unexpected encounters with human beings.
First recorded in North America in 1981, it has rapidly increased its distribution in the United States in the past 20 years.
It is the most abundant paper wasp in countries around the Mediterranean its native region. Its distribution also includes southern Europe northern Africa and the Middle East eastward to China |

Scott - a salute, or maybe she's just wiping her forehead as if to say "this is hard work! I'm beat!!!" :) This is an incredible shot with so much detail. I love the colors and the composition. Makes the wasp almost look....cute. Nice job!

Hello Scott,
Una foto verdaderamente buena, me gusta como has encuadrado, colocando la avispa a un lado y con tan tremendo aumento, se ven muy bien lo detalles. Parece estar cansada y secandose el sudor de la frente!...
