While up at Magee Marsh I spotted a young whitetail bedded down in a thicket. I inched as close as I could with my camera up and and in the ready position, when suddenly a twig snapped beneath my feet and alerted it.

Immediately the fawn jumped up and looked behind it, not knowing where the noise it had just heard came from. I was able to get a few shots off before it took off back into the swamp.

I noticed that it's coat was filled with burrs and twigs. They looked like they were matted all together which gave the young deer a shaggy looking appearance.

I didn't have time to compose any kind of shot, I was just glad that I had a clear view of the fawn. If it had moved a few feet either way, it would have been partially hidden behind the many trees and brush.

That is a chance shot..one in a million Ron...What a stroke you had...and did a good job with some quick thinking..It shows VERY good ability to work quickly in unusual situations which is one of the things a news photographer either learns quickly or gets fired fast...Wow! This is an impressive shot..Simple but no...Great for you! Have a Blessed Sunday!

Hi Ron,

You were soooo lucky to get this shot of the adorable young Whitetail. Looking at the ground I'm not surprised she was covered with twigs. Amazing that she is out in the opened like that giving you a perfect view. Face, ears, coat and legs are all wonderful. It's too bad she heard you coming but it's a wonderful picture.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for bringing us a bit of nature from Magee Marsh. I enjoyed viewing the fawn a lot. Congratulations on getting such a great shot in the limited time you had available.

John

Very nicely caught photo of this shy, curious, but alert fawn. The lighting is great and helps enhance the scene... being privleged to become part of it's world if for only a brief moment of time. Well done. TFS

Hi Ron,

A nice candid shot of this little guy/girl. Scruffy but cute little animal.

Seems like I never have my camera with when I see fawns. Deer are horribly plentiful here, should be lots of opportunities for photos, but I've never gone looking for fawns, maybe next year. Keep in mind that mother deer can become quite upset with you if she thinks you're too close to her baby!

Good sharpness, contrast and color, especially considering the circumstances. Gary
