| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a sand kitten, about a year and a half old. They have very large heads, although this is somewhat exaggerated by the perspective.
The lighting is kept fairly low in most of the cat house exhibits as you can tell by the dilated pupils. As a result, the DOF is pretty shallow, given the range and 2.5 aperture. I was able to hand hold although I should have stopped down a bit for more depth.
Sand cats, Felis margarita, are true desert cats, although the name is reserved for a subspecies of the true wildcat. The range includes the Sahara and Arabian Deserts, as well as deserts of Iran and Pakistan.
Adult size ranges from 4-8 pounds and 29-36 inches. They require no water, deriving sufficient fluid from prey. They are nocturnal, feeding on rodents, lizards, insects and are also known as snake hunters.
Taken at the Cincinnati zoo. |

Hello Greg
The head really is large isn't it.Very good shot of this wild cat.Very good colour saturation. It seems focused on something.I notice the darker fur markings around the eyes and on the nose.TFS
Rob
A really good shot of this kitten. It is amazing how wild cats look fiercer than domestic cats. either that, or it is psychological. really nice colors here.. sharpness is good as well.
