Northern Flicker
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A very cooperative northern flicker is nesting in a neighbor's dead tree. I assumed it was a female since it was repeatedly going in and out of the nest, but the mustache stripe identifies it as a male. Perhaps some construction work? This is the yellow shafted form common in the eastern US.
Insects are the favorite food of this bird with ants being particularly prized. |

Really good close-up shot you got. I find it hard to get close to them. I'm always after the ones in Canada. I wonder if the mustache rule holds true here with our type. I'll have to look at past pics I've taken. I know they love ants here and are always on the ground. I don't think I've seen one pecking at a tree yet surprisingly. Anyway; tfs Greg. -Trevor
Hi Greg,
Very nice capture of Northen Flicker with good pose, composition, lighting and colours. Sharpness of details is excellent.
