A male Wood Duck that graced my farm pond for a short time last November, dedicated to Smitha for her kind encouragement.

The Wood Duck, Aix sponsa, is a medium-sized perching duck.
A colorful duck of wooded swamps and streamsides, it is one of only a few North American ducks that nest in trees. Many people consider it to be the most beautiful of all waterfowl.

The male Wood Duck has a head of iridescent green and purple. Long crest green, purple. Thin white line extending from bill, over the eye, to the back of the crest. Throat white with two finger-like projections onto face and neck. Bill red, with thin yellow at base and dark tip. Eyes red. Chest deep reddish. White stripe extending up side of chest; black bar behind it. Sides yellowish gold, bordered in black and surrounded by white line. Back black with metallic sheen. Undertail reddish violet. Tail black with bronzy sheen. Belly white.

Hello Thomas,
Thank you so much for the dedication. Despite the tearing chilly wind and lens being manual focus, you have captured an excellent photograph. Good focus, sharpness and details.Lovely colours and excellent POV.Thank you once again for posting this beautiful bird for me.
Regards,
Smitha.

Bellissimo ritratto, buono POV (meglio se più basso), bella la composizione, buona nitidezza, belli e saturi i colori. Complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

hello Thomas

and welcome to TrekNature

superb close shot of the wood duck drake with fine POV and DOF,
beautiful luminosity of the image and colours of the wonderful duck,
excellent contrast between the wood duck's plumage colours
with great sharpness and details,

just one thing Thomas, maybe you should zoom a little bit less
to give more space in the botom of the image to include
all the reflexion on the water of the wood duck,

TFS (Thank For Sharing)

Hola Thomas, muy buena fotografia, con buena luz y color, quizá un poco mas de reflejo por bajo hubiera ganado la composición. Un saludo

Hi Thomas,
welcome back. You killed off all your previous photos and that is a surprise but then again it looks like you have a new digital camera to work with if memory serves. You have an excellent looking capture of this most attractive duck with him in his colour glory and details enough to make my eyes wander all over his plumage.Wood ducks are not common here in Alberta where I live so your photo reminds me of what I have been missing, thanks for sharing this view with us. Bob
