[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I found this strange looking mushroom growing out behind the house. I'm sure it is a type of Puffball, but I've never seen one with this type of wrinkled outside skin.
The inside looked exactly like a regular puffball and they were about the size of a baseball.

There were actually two of these strange looking ones growing side by side. I also found some regular smooth skinned puffballs growing nearby.

Hi Ron
Great photo of an unusual fugi...Fine detail and natural color...It's hard to find mushrooms on the Island and when I do my photos lack the artistic look that yours have...TFS
Jim

Wow - looks like a loaf of bread fresh out of the oven with a background trail mix of twigs and leaves.

Amazing that they get to be as big as a volleyball.

Dear Ron

You present us a superb picture of a particular mushroom. You probably are right when you say it is a kind of puffball. It's fine to notice that its geometrical shape is very pleasant.

I have read about your recent surgery and I'm so happy that things turn out well for you. It's the same for me, I just had to replace a haunch...

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Ron,

An excellent shot, great depth of field and nice light. I'm about 85% sure this is a Pasture Puffball, Mycenastrum corium, nothing else fits. The sculpted Puffballs in the Calvatia genus are all from the western US, nowhere near Ohio.
