| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| Buffalo cow shedding winter coat and grazing at Custer State Park, South Dakota. This 71,000 acre park, with one of the largest buffalo herds in the world, is near Mt. Rushmore. The herd of 1,500 bison roams freely throughout the park, often stopping traffic along the 18-mile Wildlife Loop Road. We were lucky to be stopped as the grazing herd crossed the road and we were able to shoot some closeups. The other sections of the herd were far away, as in the background of this photo. |
