Here is a double rarity -- the American White Pelican and the ever-so-close passage of a gaggle of Canada Goose in convoy. I've got some establishing shots I may post later that show the beauty of the whole scene, too, but I wanted you to see a close-up.
One of the American White Pelican nesting areas is about 20 miles northeast of this location on an island off Green Bay. Adult pelicans can weigh 16 pounds, with a 9-foot wingspan. More details are available at: http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/caer/ce/eek/critter/bird/pelican.htm.
With apologies to "Home on the Range" for the title and acknowledging that I've maxed out the zoom on my camera, I post this shot from the 1,000 Islands Nature Center area. I applied USM and levels slightly to bring out as much detail as possible. Other PP was confined to cropping and framing. |

nice capture but the focus and colors are off, looks like a fairly major crop. but it's still good you shared it because of the moment you captured
Maxing out the zoom -- and maybe using digital zoom at that -- does make the picture a little soft. I also think it was worth posting even so. Looking forward to seeing the whole scene.
Ahhh you picked your title fine. Old Wisconsin comes through as a Native American state of mystery and unusual captures. Now I might say it was a bit out of focus due to enlarging....but I don't think that was your point of the picture. Your point was to show the closeness of the combination of species...from two country's. And you did that well....
