[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Took this photo of what I believe is a Green Darner Dragonfly yesterday.

Green Darner (Anax junis) also called "Darning Needle" "Mosquito Hawk" and "Lord of June". One of the largest and fastest flying of the the dragonflies. It's body length reaches from 2 1/4" to 3 1/2"

It has the typical large compound eyes, and it's thorax is emerald green with a stripe of garnet running down it's abdomen.

They can be found from early spring to fall near vegetation close to water.

Hello Ron,
A superb capture of a Green Darner with all the features of a high quality shot: the sharpness, POV, BG and excllent composition. It's great when these guys can pose in just the right place to be photographed.
We see in the news that Ohio is inundated: this darner can't be far from lots of water!
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
Ivan

Hi Ron

Very nice. Sharpness and details are outstanding. The f10.0 gave you very good DOF allowing the entire subject to be in focus but still a blurred background. Excellent exposure in what must have been very bright conditions. I agree you have Green Darner, most likely female.

Hi Ron,
This is a good picture with decent composition and excellent sharpness and colors. The exposure has given you the perfect DOF.
On a personal note, a little diagonal/off center composition of the subject would have had a better impact :-), but this is just a personal taste :-)

Hi Ron,

WOW! A superb shot of this Darning Needle. I haven't seen one since I left the east coast. You captured this perfectly and in a marvelous position. Colors are wonderful and the razor sharp details of the face, body and wings are magnificent. A perfect background and great composition.

Hello Ron,
a brilliant picture which professionally introduces the dragonfly species.
It clearly shows 'all' the details and colours to recognize the species.
Besides the spectacular body colours, I also like to see the fine colour nuances of the transparent wings.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Ron,
Outstanding shot of this great looking Dragonfly with such wonderful details on its spread-out gossamer wings. Very neat and sharp image with nice colours and perfect lighting. Excellent DOF, POV and composition. Kudos.

You're really getting into another arena here Ron.....I would have to go way back in my memory banks. I am certain if they were there I saw them, but as is with all of nature as a kid...it was no big deal, just the way I lived.....and my most exciting thing in the world was the man who came by and brought Popsicles for a nickle...so we have a GREAT image of this puppy..and some lightning bugs...Now what? Hm....insects that came and bit us...Do you remember 6-12 lotion? We used it all the time..I wonder if they still make it...You are a historical museum of Ohio...the place I love so much....ahhh
Bob

Hi Ron,
Great shot! You've shown the dragon and its wings/veins nicely.
Very good DOF or plane of focus, colors, exposure, details, and BG.
Beautiful dragon with its lime green thorax and rusty orange abdomen. Well composed top-shot with space above, and off-center left. The branch itself adds well/compliments with its green mossy covering and wishbone form..IMHO :)
Howard

I have been wanting to shoot this type of photography for a long time. THis photo is perfect. Would love to be able to do just that. Great stuff.
