i guess he was not thinking about taking a dip into the "water"... great capture, love the vertical branch sticking
out of the green mass, and of course the actually pretty grackle with his yellow eye and dark blueish head. well done & best wishes, thor.

Hi Ron,
Grackles are great for pictures. The shiny colors of their feathers are always beautyful.
Nice POV, colors and presentation.

Hi Ron,
Nice capture of the Grackle. Excellent detail and good exposure, and you caught it while it was foraging, which is always a bit more interesting than just sitting there. Yeah, those iridescent feathers have to be photographed with the light at just the right angle or the iridescence won't show up.
These are smart birds. I used to go often fishing on the big piers in Chicago when I lived in the city, and you had to really watch the Grackles, as they're smart enough to wait until you weren't watching, and then they'd do their best to dig through any bags or containers you might have brought with, as it was common for fishermen to have a bag lunch with them on the pier, or sometimes they would have bait, usually soft-shell crayfish, in a bag on the pier with them, and the Grackles would steal your bait or lunch if you didn't have your stuff well protected.

Do not be disappointed. I have many similar to this and yours is by far the best.....mine are Brewers blackbirds...which are also hard to tell apart from Grackles..I let my wife do the ID'ing from her massive book collection...and if she doesn't find it Ivan does:-)
It is VERY worthy and shows the sheen so very well..I truly believe you do not give yourself enough credit on this one...it is superb!

Hi Ron,
These are beautiful birds with iridescent coloring in the right light which you certainly have here. The metallic looking beak is also striking.

I love the fact that this bird's eye is so well defined and the light and shadow on his body nicely displays the color on his crown. I see the partial shadow as a positive thing.
I love the detail of his perch on what seems to be a vine sticking in the marsh. Might be nice to see a shot of the same pulled back a bit to see more of the surrounding with which you were dealing.
