I'm not sure what species of Milkweed this is. It's clearly an Asclepias, but that's as far as I can go with certainty. The leaves are relatively few and are at the the upper part of the main stem, no leaves on the lower part of the stem. The leaves and stem are completely hair-free, and the flowers are in terminal clusters. It strongly resembles Prairie Milkweed, Asclepias sullivantii, but the flower color is all wrong, the leaves don't have the red-to-pink mid-ribs of A. sullivantii, and the leaves are located somewhat differently than in A. sullivantii. To see what typical A. sullivantii looks like, see my posting of it at http://www.treknature.com/viewphotos.php?l=3&p=151631 .

I'm now thinking it is indeed a specimen of A. sullivantii that has very abnormal coloration, but I'm still working on it.

Whatever it is, I find it to be an attractive plant, and Milkweeds are a favorite photo subject of mine.

I've re-posted this shot, as I accidentally posted a version that had been optimized on my old lap-top computer which has an inaccurate display, so the color balance and brightness were off in the version I first posted. Sorry about that!

Hey John! we are neighbors once again.. how coincidental is that!!
I thought your first post was great, but I think these colors are even more eye appealing!! I'm glad you decided to re-post since this is what you actually saw, and that is what we should be trying to achieve in all our photos. Well done!! TFS.

Bonjour John,
Le sujet est bien mis en valeur dans un cadrage serré permettant d'pprécier la finesse des détails et la délicatesse des couleurs.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
