[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took a trip up north today to Quail Hollow State Park. The weather wasn't very cooperative for taking photos, as it rained on and off almost the entire day.

I did manage to get this photo of one of Ohio's most spectacular wildflowers, the Cardinal Flower. This beautiful flower grows in small patches along streams and rivers throughout Ohio.

The Cardinal Flower is not very successful at reproducing, possibly because it can only be pollinated by hummingbirds.

I will post another photo in the workshop which shows more of the entire plant.

Hello Ron
elegant composition with beautiful Lobelia cardinalis flowers, fine details and very soft colors, great sharpness.
Very interesting the soft background.

Hi Ron,

A pretty shot, very attractive flowers. I'm of two minds about the background though. On the one hand, at f/11 you can get a feel for the plant's surroundings, but it might have been a prettier shot if you had opened the lens a bit more to throw the background more out of focus.

Still, it's an excellent shot!

From what I've read, Cardinal Flower can self-pollinate, so it may not rely entirely on Hummingbirds for pollination.

Hello Ron,
I can see why it has been called the Cardinal flower. What powerful color and details in this excellent image. Thanks Ron for sharing.

Hi Ron,

I have never heard of a Cardinal Flower before! It reminds me of some I saw in Australia and New Zealand. How interesting about the pollination and hummingbirds. Beautiful red and lovely green leaves and sharp details. Thank you for sharing this.

So many think of Ohio and automatically think of Cleveland....but Ohio is 99 percent NOT Cleveland in its natural pristine way. I wish I had it all to do again...I am a bit selfish wishing it twice I suppose...wonderful shot Ron!

Hi Ron...

A fine shot of the Cardinal flower. A very brillant, beautiful flower with good leaf detail. I have never, to my knowledge, seen one of these. TFS.

Larry
