[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We had some really bad storms come through our area this evening, so I had to wait until almost sundown to take the camera out for some shots.

I was walking around the house looking for anything of interest when I noticed these tiny fungi growing in our mulched flower beds.

Thanks to some previous email conservations with John Denk, I realized these were Birds Nest Fungi. I got out my tripod and placed a piece of cardboard on the totally saturated ground, so I could kneel down and take a few shots.

Birds Nest Fungi:
The Nidulariaceae are a family of fungi in the order Nidulariales. Commonly known as the bird's nest fungi, their fruiting bodies resemble tiny egg-filled birds' nests complete with tiny "eggs". As they are saprobic, feeding on decomposing organic matter, they are often seen growing on decaying wood and in soils enriched with wood chips or bark mulch; they have a widespread distribution in most ecologicl regions.

This is fascinating stuff! I have never heard of bird nest fungi.
Great POV to show us the very unusual formation of these growths.

A superb macro, excellent composition, detail, sharpness, everything is working in this shot. Well done!

Since it's been rainy, make it a point to get into the woods as much as possible for the days after the rain, as this time of year is often fantastic for mushrooms, especially when significant rains occur.

Beautiful photo of Crucibulum laeve, sharpness and exposure are both fantastic, as well as colors and compo. Great job. You're lucky to have a rainy season - ours in Middle-East Europe is very dry.
