[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a 6-spotted Tiger Beetle, Cicindela sexguttata, our common species here. It can have 8,6,4 or 2 white spots, but usually has 6, thus the common name. It didn't behave like the typical Tiger Beetle, as they usually are very hard to get near, while this one let me stick my 60mm macro right into its face.

Tiger Beetles are voracious little predators. They run their prey down, and are capable of moving very fast. They run so fast that they have to periodically stop in order to see where their prey is, as they can't see well while running.

I've added a workshop photo of it from another angle, in which you get a feel for the ferocious jaws these predators possess.

Thanks to Radomir (Cicindela) for help in positively ID'ing this one.

Hello John,
This is a superb macro that deserves more attention!
You were lucky to get so close to this Tiger Beetle (our expert on these, Radomir who takes the tiger beetle generic name for TN, will check your ID) to achieve this fine sharpness and DOF in great ambient lighting.
Well done and thanks,
Have a good week,
Ivan

Hello John!
This is very nice capture of Cicindela sexguttata, so your ID is correct :)
Tiger beetles from North America are very rarely presented in TN so bravo for new, interesting and educative presentation.
If you agree I would like to add this picture to my theme "Cicindelidae of the world" :)
By the way, here in the first 10 presentations I included a "tiger beetle saga" with some additional details about this interesting beetle group. Please feel free to look at these pictures :>
All the best from Poland,
Radomir

Hi John,
so you were able to stop this incredible runner for a second! All is well focussed, the poise of the beetle looks great. And its a real beauty to boot. Thanks, John for sharing this moment with us TN people.

Best regards
Dietrich
