This pretty flower is considered a weed by most folks. It grows in lawns, fields and along roadsides. I found these particular two plants growing in my lawn next two a pine tree.
The name comes from an old belief that hawks ate the plant in order to improve their eyesight. It is also known as Devils Paintbrush.
Height: 1-2'
Blooms: June-August
Habitat: Fields and roadsides
Range: Northeast to Mid-Atlantic to Midwest |

Hi Ron,
What a pretty "weed" with the wonderful brilliant colors. The oranges and yellows look fantastic against the green background. These would be called wildflowers here!
Jane
I have such weeds or flora as one might call in my own area...and I have a few images, but the orange has given me a bit of trouble...I shall work on it as to perfect it much like this one...but now...it may be warm going to cold..and I hope sans scooter, to be able to get out as much as I would like in fall...the season which brings me great dreams and the harvest witch brings good meals...Be Blessed!

Hy Ron
I don't know if this is considered a weed, but sincerely, here I never seen and in my home country it grows mostly in mountainous regions.I am glad to see it here.
Kind regards, Oana
Hallo Ron
This is a plain but yet so beautiful photo and flower. Thanks for sharing this Devils Paintbrush with us, and especially me, as it is very eye-catching and striking. A lovely close-up, with sharp details. The colours remind me of a burning fire. Kind regards
Anna
