[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This particular fruit isn't very common in our part of Ohio, but those from the southern part of the state will easily recognize it as the fruit of the persimmon tree.

A persimmon, known to the ancient Greeks as "the fruit of the gods" is actually a very sweet tasting fruit when fully ripe, but will make you pucker up tighter then a drum if you try it any sooner.

The term "happier then a opossum in a persimmon tree" refers to the fact that many animals including the opossum, love to eat the fully ripened fruit.

The fruit of the persimmon tree doesn't ripen until most of the leaves have fallen off, which is usually after a few frosts have hit the area.

This is one of my favorite fall to early winter fruits, which I look forward to snacking on each year.

Beautiful capture...Being from East Texas I am quite familiar with the persimmon and the reward of biting into an unripe one...Messy to eat but a delicious fruit for man and animal...TFS

The composition is lovely. We had quite a few wild persimmons in my neck of the woods. I love eating them, but like Jim said, they're quite messy.

I like the row of three, it works for me..

Wow! I didn't know or it has been too long...and look at what nature has done with the leaves...I have had this in teas before. I think it is medicinal in some way or another.

The picture is wonderful of course...but there are so many stories and analogies...for instance the rose hips which have no taste look a bit like this. And it might have fooled me..Very nice Ron.

Hi Ron,
There is another kind of persimmon, I only know it has a Japanese name to it. That kind you can eat even when it's still hard as long as it orange and not green. This is a nice shot and they look they are ready to be eaten, but maybe not just yet. Good colors, the leave don't look as nice but that is the season they turn.
