I'm All Ears
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Since our expected 20 cm of snow yesterday turned into 40 cm, it seems appropriate to post another reminder of summer, like yesterday's June iris. This is from late spring, a bit before the irises are in full bloom, but after the raspberries have flowered and set their fruit.
Our yard is good for minor wildlife, with a woodchuck living in the raspberries, sometimes visiting foxes or raccoons, and frequent deer (Odocoileus virginianus). We have even had the rare treat of seeing triplet fawns. The deer use runs which are well established and followed year to year, and one of these goes through our yard.
This day there were just two deer, which we first noticed sitting next to our berry patch, apparently taking a break from foraging. This was shot from the window of my house, about 25 to 30 m away. When I very carefully raised the window a few cm for a better shot, I got this full ear alert. Seeing that huge earspan makes me appreciate better how sensitive deer are to small sounds- obviously a good evolutionary strategy!
tech note- significant cropping, shadow/highlight adjustment for best clarity, increased contrast, slight increase in saturation, single step PS sharpening |
