worm holes?

Sorry for the graininess of this image, but...
...since the only thing visible is sand, perhaps graininess is to be expected.
As for the title, what but worms, or possibly other small beach creatures, could possibly form such nice round holes in the sand? Who else could be responsible for such minimalist natural art as this?
In fact, this is just a closeup of the same holes bored in the frozen sand shelf of my next to last post. If you want to see them in context or read about their formation, go back to that post.
My main point today is just the abstract art of nature, popping up in unexpected places due to unusual natural conditions. When taken out of the context of that other post, this image is surprisingly hard to assess- size, possible location, cause, other aspects of the physical reality.
Yet there is something intrinsically pleasing about these unusual holes and their arrangement, their smoothly rounded edges and hints of warm lighting, and their deep dark mysterious interiors.

A fine close up of an abstract looking "sand art" Bob, but I don't think the holes are worm-made my friend, below the sand there seems to be some loose gravelly layer, I think the holes were made by quickly draining water rivulets through the "thawed" sand into randomly distributed more loose substratum, but I can be quite wrong of course...

Hello Bob,
I see you came up with another interesting natural work of art.
Love the intricate detail and lighting you captured. From the way each hole has a rim of glowing light encircling it, I would venture to guess the sun was coming from the right side of the frame.
