Couple of Swallows

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is another bird I can't to see again. When I see the tree Swallows soaring in the blue sky I know it is really Spring! The sanctuary I frequent has quite a few nesting boxes in a couple of meadows for both the Eastern Bluebirds and the Tree Swallows. In May and June I enjoy sitting myself down on the grass and watching/photographing the behavior of the very active Tree Swallows around the nesting boxes. The flying skill and precision of those skills always has me is awe as I watch them artfully execute mock air battles to intimidate a usurper looking to take over a particular nesting box. It is also fun to watch them in May when they start to pair up and go house hunting. Many times the male will stake out a nesting box and stand guard and the female will fly off and pluck insects from the air and bring them back and feed them to her man...don't get any cute ideas all you guys out there, you might bite off more than you chew if you try to get your mate to serve you like the Swallows!
This is from last Spring and I am getting anxious to photograph them as well as their cousins the Barn Swallows and the Purple Martins. It is a challenge to follow their swift flight and antics with my lens, but I truly love the challenge.
Here you see a good comparison of the male and female Tree Swallow with the male being the flashy blue-green one and the female being drab. They both have a wonderful song that can be heard so sweetly as they fly their loop de loops high over head. |

Not bad of a capture but not your quality of postings. These are overexposed as this shot was taken at high time.
The birds look over processed from neat image. I'm not sure if it was used for this shot. The post is more detailed.

Well done Lesley. I like the composition, the fact both birds seem to be looking at the same thing and the fact these birds have different colors. And I just love swallows.
I only see a very slight overexposure. You can vaguely see a halo around the birds (just like my The Gambia bird HERE).
Very nice shot Lesley,
It's fantastic that you have both male and female together here.
Thanks for posting
Lesley, This a great shot of the male/female pair. How distant were they? Great note, TFS!
It's not your best shot, but they are very nice, I like the pose.
Well done.
TFS.

Stunning shot of these 2 Swallows, only they are a little too sharp. I never realised they were 2 different colours. Thanks for your notes, and for sharing. Well done.
