From what I've read online, this European species of the Common Wood Sorrel is quite rare in the United States. I can't verify that statement, but I do know I've never seen this color phase before.

While visiting a marsh area in New York, I came across this tiny light blue flowering plant growing all by itself in a deep dark section of a nearby woods.

I thought it looked so beautiful growing amongst all the ferns, pines and hardwoods, and decided to take a photo of it. The tiny light blue flower seemed to stand out in contrast to all the shades of green surrounding it.

It was quite dark in this part of the woods so I experimented with different exposures in order to capture it just as it appeared on the shaded forest floor.

Most of the shots came out overexposed causing the tiny blue flower to look more whitish. I decided on this image which reflects it's natural appearance as I saw it that morning.

Hello Ron
In Europe, the wood sorrel is indicating a specific type of forest - the coniferous forests were there is more humidity and darkness.Beeing so common in my country, i thought that this specie grows all over the world(including also US).

Hi Ron,

Nice shot, gives a feel for the light where you shot.

The weedy yellow ones are very common here, and I've seen the native Violet Wood Sorrel in large numbers in the Appalachians in Kentucky, also in some local prairies, never seen this one though. Do you know the scientific name?

Thanks,
John

I did some looking as well because it looked a little like this Flax we have out here, but yours have set amount of petals for sure...wonderful blue and I shall put it on my blue things which I love so much. Thanks for sharing Ron. You are indeed an undiscovered blessing!

Bonjour Ron,
C'est bien composé et très agréable à contempler avec une bonne mise en valeur du sujet par la finesse des détails, la délicatesse des couleurs et l'opposition du sujet dans son environnement.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
Gérard
