[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Took this shot of a young flicker while on vacation last week at Chatauqua lake in western New York. There were at least two young in the nest, they would pop out every few minutes and call for mom for food.

When one of the parents would finally arrive it sounded like one big free for all, as the babies would loudly proclaim to everyone that they were starved.

I could never get a shot of the adults because they stayed clear until I was well out of good camera range. I did manage to wait the young out, and capture a few fleeting images.

Hi Ron,

Glad to see you're home safe and sound. Hope you had a great trip! This young Flicker is just wonderful. I love the way he is looking out of the hole with that terrific look in his eye. He looks so young and fresh. Beautiful colors - the reds and yellows are lovely. Superb details of the face and of the visible plummage. The composition is excellent.

What a lovely display of elegance and beauty.
This is indeed a very special photograph with a very special model. You have captured this flicker with great detail and clarity. Here I especially refer to the strokes of red in the head feathers, and the visibility of the dots on the body feathers. A great portrait. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ron,
You are lucky to have captured this bird! Two days ago, I chase one for hours in a park near home but it flew away every time I could approach him... They are superb and noisy birds. You caught good details in excellent composition. I think that the WS gave some good results regarding the tones of colors and contrast. Thanks,
