Can anybody help me ID this guy. I've never seen, but assume it's a ladybug of some kind. It has very interesting colors, including the reflective/glittery properties of it's shell.
It's a Mottled tortoise Beetle.
Adults are generally oval or squared, and most have metallic coloration, sometimes brilliant gold. They are sometimes mistaken for lady beetles and have been known as "gold bugs." Larvae are generally flattened, spiny, and very in coloration from yellowish to reddish brown. Most carry cast skins and feces from the hind end, a habit sometimes lending them the name "peddlers."
Thanks for the lead Radomir. I wouldn't have known where to start looking. |

Hello Robert,
I do not know the American fauna of beetles to much, but this species belongs to family Chrysomelidae subfamily Cassidinae. English name of beetles from this subfamily is "tortoise beetle".
Best regards,
Radomir
