The Sipsey River in the Sipsey Wilderness Area of Bankhead National Forest, in the northwest of the state of Alabama. It is extremely humid. The river is easily fordable on foot. The trail I was hiking with my boy scout group parallels the river for a while before climbing into the hills. It was very interesting to see the difference between hill top and river bottom. Near the water the vegetation is lush, there's lots of sand and bugs (and very large spiders!). As you climb away though, it turns to more of the usual Alabama type forest. I highly recommend the hike. It's about 15 miles or so I think. We made an overnight of it. Some cool surprises: the trail runs through a little cave. It gets tight enough that you have to take your backpack off to get through. There's also a small waterfall. Fording the river several times added to adventure also also with a close encounter with largest spider I have ever personally seen.
This is scanned from a print. It's not very sharp. Actually, it was rather dark there and I didn't have a tripod. |

Hello Jason,
I like the way you composed this shot with the large boulder situated in the frame! From your notes it sounds like you had a great time this particular day!! TFS.

Hi Jason!
It's a pleasure to me to reply to your critique on my last picture. I mean, that's also the way how TN works and it opens the view on different kind of pictures.
I like your picture very much, mainly for the atmosphere it generates. Also because it reminds me of a very similar spot at the River Saane near my home. From the technical point of view, I notice that the picture lacks a little bit of sharpness.
Kind regards
Markus

Hello Jason !
I love the mood and the atmosphere of this icture, with the river, the forest, the rock and also the fog - it's a bit mysterious, like a landscapefrom a fantasy tale ! :-) Very nicely composed, and even if sharpness is not perfect, this remains a very beautiful picture. Well done !
Valérie.

Hello Jason,
I went through your gallery and saw that you have a lot of interesting and original subjects. May be the camera-work isn't perfect, but the composition and choice of point of view are excellent. So with some training and improvement of technics you will achieve good pictures, I'm sure. This seems to be a very mysterious and peaceful place.
Thanks and kind regards
Anne
