This is a so beautiful presentation!
I like so much the POV to catch the pose of this insect alighted on the flower.
The background got is so soft and artistic, great DOF manage.

Cecilia this is a stunning shot.

A magnificent specimen and lots detail. The composition of placing the thistle to the left and the butterfly central is excellent. I think your background is superb, very soft and diffuses with nice pastel colours.
The light is nice and hasn't caused any harsh shadows. Well done with your presentation of this shot it's perfect for this photograph.

And what a classic it is ;)
This is a splendid macro that shows all the beauty of this impressive swallowtail's wings. The colors are most charming and i also like the "contrast" between the wings and the flower (in terms of colors).
The details are super-sharp and the DOF is simply impeccable - isoalting it nicely and blurring the BG very well.
Excellently framed and composed.

This picture is definitely one to be proud of! It is so appealing when looked at and makes one of the best swallowtail pictures on TE!

Composition:

The simple composition makes this picture very efficient. The lack of distracting objects is one of the greatest assets. By including the supporting plant you balanced the composition perfectly. The clean silhouette of the swallowtail stands out perfectly from the soft, OOF background. The empty space around the subject was also distributed very well! Excellent job on this one!

Colors:

The warm colors create a nice atmosphere. They look natural and are well saturated. Also, the greenish background enhances the stronger colors in the foreground.

Contrast:

Excellent contrast in the subject! You did a great job choosing a background with few colors and low contrast. It emphasizes the subject better.

Exposure:

The exposure was handled perfectly! All the details were preserved very good and the shadows are very soft. I wasn't able to spot any overexposed or underexposed areas.

Focus:

It is obvious that you focused on your subject! The details are razor sharp! You also controlled the DOF very well. You kept a consistent sharpness throughout the whole foreground while blurring everything behind! Very well done!

Hi Cecilea,
This is a wonderful butterfly photo. The composition is perfect and I really like the frame. The slight tilt of the thistle and the angle of the butterfly make it a classic. I have never seen thistle that shade of purple.
Only one question:
Isn't this the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (yellow with the black tiger stripes) and not the Spicebush Swallowtail (which is mostly black with ivory spots along margin of forewing)?
