[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This Monarch was one of the late visitors to Bertoldi Park, part of the National Botantical Gardens in Washington DC. The following week there were none.

The Washington DC area is a stop on the Monarch's great migration south to Mexico.

Hi Robin,
Great contrasting colors between butterfly and its surrounding, makes the butterfly as main object is clearly visible. Great DoF, blurry BG is very nice. Well composed and very nicely framed.
Excellent shot.

Hello Robin,
This is a beautiful and very colorful capture of this Monarch. This composition and POV are really nice with excellent lightning and exposure. I like to see the sun in its wings and you chose a good DOF that let us see those superb flowers. Well done and TFS,
Claudine

The back-lit perspective gives the butterfly's wings a transparent sort of look, Robin.
It is a full-blooded composition with flowers and the butterfly sharing equal attention. Happens with me most of the time :-)!
TFS and take care.

Hello Robin,
I love the light in this image, the backlight through the wings is excellent and adds a lot of depth. Great detail and colours, nicely composed. There are some OE patches on the upper leaves but that presents a dilemna. They could be controlled by the use of flash but that would kill the beauty of this image I think. I think I would have done exactly as you have and then tried to recover some detail in the upper leaves during post-processing. That's really a minor nit though for me, it's a beautiful image. Great work.
Regards,
Adrian
