| Romalea microptera. This was taken at the Orlando Wetlands park near Christmas. There were several around, this one was the only one that had a full set of legs. Not sure how the others had lost their limbs. They can be heard hissing when threatened which is the the secretion of a foamy irritant from the thoracic region known as 'tobacco spit'. They a quite large with the females being about 8cm long. |

A fine well composed shot of this large species of grasshopper, the Eastern Lubber, showing its features including the large hind legs and small wings with good sharpness and colours against a fine contrasting sandy BG.
Thanks for sharing this image of a species that I think is new for TN.
