This is a Black-waved Flannel Moth caterpillar & the hairs can cause an irritation or sting...Thankfully, I was aware of this possibility when I found it & thus did not use my hands when I moved it to a more photogenic plant

This is amazing Scott. I've not seen a caterpillar like that before! Using the flash really accentuates it's "hair"!

Wow amazing little creature. I thought it was a seed head at first. Lovely shot, sharp and love the colours. Fascinating insect, thanks for sharing it and glad you didnt get stung.
