[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the Pileated Woodpecker. (Dryocopus pileatus.) It lives year around in Western Kentucky, but may be found from the Southern tip of Florida to the Northern reaches of Canada. It is not found in Western United States, however. It is a shy bird that lives in deciduous or mixed forests. This one made it's cavity in a tree in my yard. The young Pileated Woodpeckers fledged a couple of days after I took this picture.

Nice image, Priscilla. We have some of these in our neighborhood here in Georgia. I was surprised how large they are. Their call is a loud laughing sound. :-) Enjoyed seeing this! Reid
