Gulf Fritillary

Family: Brush-Footed Butterflies (Nymphalidae)
Subfamily: Longwings (Heliconiinae)
The male of this species will patrol for females, who lay eggs on many parts of the plant. The caterpillars will also feed on the host plant. The adults will spend the winter in the south.
Gulf Fritillary feed on nectar from;lantana, shepherd's needle, cordias,compoites, and others wild flowers.
The can be found in pastures, open fields,forest,and even city gardens.
These butterflies can be found in South America, Central America, Mexico, and the West Indies to the United States. Gulf Fritillary will at times wonder to the central United States, but are rare to be found
in the northern states |
