Gray Squirrel

Funny thing about this little guy, as I walking through the park yesterday, I noticed him following me for several yards. I started talking to him in a soft voice and on occasion, he would remain in the tree but stop and act as if was listening.

When I seen that this must be a game for him, I started walking alittle faster and along he came, I finally stopped and sit down on this rock and just stared at him for a few minutes. I explained to him that I was only here to take a few pictures and I would be leaving, and that I did not mean him any harm.

I turned and started watching a few birds in the trees and then I heard this little guy right behind me, as I turned he was hanging on the side of the tree just chattering up a storm, now I don't know much about squirrel language, but it seemed he was not ok with me there, so I quitely got up and moved away. I had to walk some way to where I didn't see him again.

You here them bark and fuss when you enter the woods as if to anounce to the whole community that you have invaded their area, but then again they bark and fuss about everything, :-)

Fun Fact: The squirrels tail has many uses: balance, an umbrella, parachute, and communication.

Have a great day!

Wonderful close-up! Great details!!!
And what an expression. ha ha Great stuff!

This photo deserves a smiley because of its cuteness factor.
Just like a character out of a fairy or fantasy movie. This one would be the hero saving everybody or something in that direction. It even made me think about the film “ Stuart Little” I watched with my granddaughter, but Staurt Little wasn’t a squirrel he was a mouse.
Thanks for the very informative notes. Really enjoyed it.
Warmest regards
Aaltjie

Hi Tabatha,
excellent pic,TFS.

hello tabatha,
nice closeup shot, the squireels are so fast and restless that shooting them becomes quite difficult, liked the pov and the composition, good eye contact,

Hola Tabata.-I think this beautiful squirrel is smiling just for You and Your friends. Nice colors and great details.
Luis52.

Quite an interesting story about your interaction with this creature, Tabatha. It is possible the squirrel was actually resenting your presence. Maybe it had little babies in a nest and you could be assumed to be a probable threat to their safety.
You have captured the aggressive expression in its eye rather well.
Thanks for sharing your experience and picture and take care.

Hello Tabatha,
I don't have much time today, only to make a quick point
You got a fantastic shot, wonderful presentation.. Well
done my friend..

Hello Tabatha,
This is a nice composition with this cute fellow. I enjoyed reading your story a lot. I believe that one can talk to animal to make them calmer and this a great way to make them pose for you ;) From my experience, if you want to capture this animal with more details possible, I suggest you use a faster shutter speed. I don't remember having taken picture of a squirrel at lower than 1/320 sec. and this was when it was very still. I might suggest also that you use a smaller aperture to make details on its fur stand out a little more :) This is a nice one anyway with great happy mood!

bonjour tabatha
il y a un leger flou mais avec ce genre de sujet tres vif,c'est inevitable surtout avec une vitesse comme ici 1/125eme.
le cadrage est un peu trop serré je pense mais j'aime bien quand même.

Hello Tabatha,
This is a fine portrait of a cute animal!
Good details in the fur coat, nice pose...
Tight framing works well!
Greetings,
Pablo -

I love your story - that happens to me a lot too. Some may call this type of squirrel common, but to me they're always so fun to watch and very very cute to boot! This is a great close-up! What a comical face and mood. Good focus and framing. Great job!! Penny
