[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I enjoy watching and photographing dragonflies at the local pond. I've watched their aerial acrobatics, seen their graceful poses, and heard the clashing of their wings as they aggressively defend their territory. But I saw something yesterday that I have never seen before.

It was mid-day and very hot (about 97 degrees F). The bright sun was directly overhead. I walked around the edge of the pond and observed several dragonflies perched in the obelisk position to minimize the sun's direct contact with their body surface. I saw the usual chases as one dragonfly entered another's territory.

Then, I noticed a Blue Dasher obelisking on the end of a twig at water's edge. It seems that he had selected a perch in Four-spotted Pennant territory. The Four-spotted Pennant did several fly-bys and then suddenly landed on the tip of the Blue Dasher's abdomen. He remained there only a few seconds.

I continued to watch as the Blue Dasher left the twig and the Four-spotted Pennant reclaimed it. And then the Blue Dasher returned the favor, briefly landing on the tip of the Four-spotted Pennant. I have a photo of that also. It is not focused well, but I will share it in WORKSHOP.

Fabulous timing to catch is great moment, I guess it must be a popular twig.

Hi Ken,

It is a very good moment you have captured in your photo! Also you made good use of the light rendering natural colors. Composition with sharp clear main subject and blurry background looks great.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hi Ken,

In Tucson 97F is considered a "cool" day. 100 is hot and 102+ is very hot. Guess everything is relative. I love this shot of the two dragonflies trying to settle a territorial dispute. The colors are just magnificent. Wonderful timing to get this action with such sharp details. The wings are superb and they show the difference between the two along with the colors of the face. Superb background and a wonderful composition.

Hello Ken. This is really brilliant capture with the dragonflies caught during their acrobatic stunts. Very good sharp focus and well metered shot against the pleasant muted background. Thanks for sharing and best regards, Jusni
