[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was lucky to find this magnificent animal laying down right next to the glass in the Houston Zoo. He stayed relaxed all the time and just stared at me while I took the pictures.

FOLLOW UP NOTE: In response to a couple of observations from TN members. The light was poor and it was all coming from the far side. Besides, I was shooting through a glass. I had to go up to 400 ISO and I really didn't want to go any higher than that. I decided to focus on the eyes, obviously because that's the focus of a close up like this. It was a good thing that the animal stayed so calm and still througout the process.

The orangutans are two species of great apes known for their intelligence and their long arms and reddish-brown hair. Native to Indonesia and Malaysia, they are currently found only in rainforests on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. Their name derives from the Malay and Indonesian phrase orang hutan, meaning "person of the forest" (Wikipedia).

Hello Edgar,

I really like the composition here and you have captured a wonderful exposure. You have used quite a slow shutter speed and low f-stop, so presumable the lighting wasn't great? I'd be interested to know wht the ISO setting was. If it was iso 100, you may have managed a slightly faster shutter speed and depth of field with 200-300, without a great loss in quality. That would have given you greater detail around his mouth. Great picture though.

Kind regards,

Mike

Hi Edgar,
amazing moment captured.TFS

Such subtle color pallet changes across his face yet all qre quite "see-able". It is a relaxed picture of this soft appearing creature. I find myself ascribing personality to it. Wonderful picture.
