Just shot this Blue Jay a few hours ago as the sun was going down on another very hot Texas day..

Busy week, but I will try & catch up with ya'll :)

The Blue Jay is a common, widespread bird related to the crow. This noisy bird sings many different songs and can sound like many other birds.

Anatomy: The Blue Jay is 10-11 inches (25.5-28 cm) long. The feathers are blue and white; they have a blue head crest and a white bar on the wing. The western North American counterpart, Steller's Jay, is 11-12 inches (28-30.5 cm) long, has a black head and crest, and lacks the white wing bars. The coloration of male and females is identical - there is no easy way to tell them apart.

Diet: Blue Jays eat other birds' eggs, acorns, fruit, nuts and insects.

Nest and Eggs: Blue Jay's nests are cups made from grass, twigs and roots. Nests are built in trees and shrubs. Females lay 3-7 green-blue eggs in each clutch (a set of eggs laid at one time).

Thanx for lookin'

HI Haward,
Interesting picture of this Blue Jay.
I like the natural setting and the alertness of the bird.
The little flares on the background are very intriguing. What are they; or is the picture taken trough a glass window?
Regards, Mario

Hi Howard,

This Jay is beautiful and I've never seen one in these colors before. The pose on the branch is wonderful. Excellent details of the face, plummage and tail feathers. I love the blowing feathers - I guess you have the same hot breeze we have. As always, a superb composition.

All you folk talk about is "HOT". Lucky you!! Wet and windy here and about 15C
Your Blue Jay is happily shading himself in the tree Howard. It is lovely to see the new growth and the bird is taking advantage of it. He looks a pretty grey colour at the moment, but Ican see tinges of his blue feathers.

Hallo Howard
Due to the fact that I have been ill, I just could not give my comments to some of the lovely images that appeared and past me by on the gallery. Now I have such a lot of catching up to do so please pardon me for only saying……………………
Splendid image. It is indeed a feast to the eye and it did not go unnoticed. I just love the way you have captured the inside of the tailpiece. The detail shown on the feathers (with the shadow) is great looking at.
Best regards
Anna

Well done, Howard.
