Back to the butterfly farm. I haven't had a chance to get out and do a lot of photography so I'm still relying on that trip last month to supply me with butterflies. Some are not as good as others but I want to be able post one of each species I saw. I have a Zebra Swallowtail which isn't up to par but I might add her to the collection here too. :)

These two are working on the next generation of Cloudless Sulphurs. Isn't the camouflage outstanding?

According to a site known as the Butterfly Farm:

"A typical female butterfly will lay about 100 eggs in her lifetime. Some species lay their eggs gregariously (in clusters). Other species lay their eggs individually on widely dispersed plants. One school of thought argues for "survival in numbers", while the other takes the perspective, "don't put all of your eggs in one basket". Both approaches are valid, but only just sufficiently to ensure the survival of the species.
Of the 100 or so eggs that may be laid, only 2% should be expected to survive to become healthy and reproductive adult butterflies. This figure is reasonable since in the aggregate one egg will replace the female and the other the male. The other 98% will fall by the wayside in the course of their development as eggs, larvae, pupae and emerging adults."

Camouflage is an amazing adaptation. These guys even mimic brown leaf defects. Very well composed and focused. Well done.

TFS!
Reid

Hi Angelina
Well seen and done it. These butterflies show us their camuflage abilities. Well composed and well framed. Bravo and TFS.
Greetings
Fevzi

Hi Angy,
Nice shot. At first glimse I thought it was just a photo of a Lantana then I thought, just one butterfly. Interesting capture.

TFS
Jim

Great camo! - These guys are hard to see in the thumbnail! Great color and detail - and it seem that the top one is blushing, because you caught them in the act! :)
Cheers, Klaus

The camouflage is indeed outstanding. Even as a picture one might not see them without having them pointed out. Now if people could figure out how to do this...THAT would be interesting....yet your photo is fine...Thanks You for your insights.

Bob

Hi Angelina,
Is that "Cloudless Love" or Love on Cloud Nine" ;}
Great light & color, nice POV and details..And yes, the camouflage is outstanding :)
Well done!
Howard

Isn't there remarkable similarity between your Cloudless Sulphurs and the Common Emigrant I posted today, Angelina?
The image of these mating butterflies is very crisp and colorful.
The subjects merge very well with the surroundings.
Thanks for sharing the picture and all the best.

Hello Angelina,
These two are certainly well camouflaged in their intimate act! Excellent shot from a nice POV. Fine sharp details and natural colours. Very fine composition too.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Wonderful camouflage indeed Angy! You still got some pretty good DOF in spite of the aperture setting. Nice composition!

It took me a moment for me to see the butterflies!
The image is composed very nicely.
Your depth of field is great!
Nice lighting!

Cheers!

The butterflies do camouflage well with the leaves. You got outstanding detail on the wing. Very nice well saturated greenish yellow color. Very sharp with excellent light. The yellow lantana and the green leaves give this photo a nice color scheme.

bonjour
jolie présentation de ce beau papillon, belles couleurs , bon POV, sur un bon BG, bravo, amitiès

Hi Angelina,
A very tender moment freezed of these Cloudless Sulphurs in love. I like the soft colour tones here. Superb lighting and focus and against the darkish BG the subjects stand out well. Excellent POV to portray the scene and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Angelina,
You were right about the camouflage. Until I noticed the head on the lower fellow/fella I assumed that the one on the top had something "stuck" to its rear. I was wrong.
That's a "loving" couple alright.
Very well composed and presented too.
So, only 2% survive? That's low.
Best regards, Mario.
