Green Lynx (Peucetia viridans) (female).
Cousins of the Green Lynx are the Oxyopes species.

I came up with the title because today is April 15th, tax deadline day here in the USA. Both spider & the IRS can never get enough..

So our IRS fits the "Insatiable" theme well, wouldn't you agree?

I looked back through my files into last September, and came up with this pregnant Green Lynx Spider.
One of my first macro attempts with the MKIII. I found its size took some getting used to..

I used the Kenko tele on this, but will try simply using the ext. rings this spring, see what happens. As my Mary likes to say, "Six of one half a dozen of another".
The extra glass of the Kenko greatly increases the exposure time. I may also use the 400D for my outdoor macro, it's much lighter, smaller, and easier to work with. The 400D has a greater crop factor than the MKIII @ 1.6x

Anyway, you see the spider with its moth meal. She's eating for hundreds :)
Mom dies in the fall shortly after making her egg sac & depositing them. In some cases she's around for their emergence.

Full frame, no crop on this one.

Thanx for lookin'

Hi Howard,

Great close shot of the Spider enjoying her meal.
Nicely composed with a good POV and pose and lovely vivid colours.
Very good details its amazing what things the macro can show that your eyes miss, I've finally got one so will start practising once the bugs start flying.

Hi Howard, it's incredible the detail you pull into some of your shots. Your macros are very impressive. This one is no exception, to that rule. Amazing how you can even see the vascular system on this spider. Excellent composition and light even at these close quarters. Very nicely done.

Hi Howard.
I am very interested about comfort of use MIII for macro shooting (especially about crop-factor). You managed to reach a great DOF however only with long exposure time and high ISO speed. Very impressive framing and composition of the shot. Details are great as well as fine colours. I wish your many spring macro shots taken with and without tubes, TC and proper reports. My best wishes and TFS.
Alexei.

Hi Howard, I have only one word to say...PERFECT!!!

Hi Howard

Obviously there's not much love lost between you and the IRS. But then again, I've never seen anybody ever saying anything good about the IRS. So, who cares and I am sure no one will shed a tear because of that, although I suppose they are only doing what they are supposed to do.

Anyway, mamma seems to be enjoying her moth and couldn't care much about you. Even though this is one of your earlier shots with the MkIII & Kenko combination it still came out tops and you just underlined your amazing skill and ability with camera in hand (ok, on tripod). Amazing details, superb DOF, spectacular colour rendition, excellent out of camera crop & composition, and superb exposure control with the fill-in flash optimally utilised.

Very well done MF and TFS.
Regards
