I reckon this type of capture is fantastic. Shows the real side of survival with rivals...just a family spat really. Well done and I think the setup is fine. I like an image that has room for the subjects to move. Well done with the plan as well

....watching girls go by....there goes one now...hmmm...The music comes right to my head..and of course it fits the image:-)You are dating yourself via music Howard...when you do lyrics I hear songs...after all I was a musician too..and even in this present incarnation:-) Very neat image...I like the notion and the editorial way in which you did it!

Hi Howard

That is one wise male cardinal. I bet he must have tried to intervene once too many while the woman quarrelled and knows how it feels when both turned upon him. So, he rather just stayed out of it and watched from the side line.

Great frozen moment which was possible through the incredible shutter speed at 1/3158 seconds with excellent detail from the great range in the DOF as attained from the f/7.1 aperture. All this of course was possible as a result from the remarkable ISO1250 setting. You know how to push the envelope and get the desired results. Great stuff MF.

Hi Howard,

At first I thought the Cardinals were back at the bird path but it was seeds! I just love the male is lying there watching the two ladies putting on quite an act. Wonderful action, colors and details. Nice setting with the grass.

I have seen some of the efforts to demonstrate flight, but none have captured flight like this, total artistry and poetry rolled into one, a stunning capture showing how it should be done... this is on my favourite list...tfs, regards h

Looks like the ladies are at it again Howard. Maybe the male is just waiting to find out which one is less likely to kick his tail before he decides on his choice of a mate.
Nice action shot with good sharpness and colours. Glad you didn't crop out the male, he adds to the scene.
What an innovative way to feed the birds when you are in a pinch.

Howard,

It looks like the male is concerned about the welfare of his lady! I always found it amusing that Cardinals would fight amongst Cardinals but did not mind sharing the food with a chickadee or other birds. Have you ever noticed similar behavior? In any event, that's a very cool picture. I like the frozen action and posses of all thee birds. Great work. TFS.

A great action,most of the time the males in fight for a female,so its funny that you managed to frame it the other way around,well seen and captured and I am amazed about the sharpness and details on the relative small birds at that distance,well done and tfs

i'm sure he's even got a smug smirk on his face too ;o) Fine work as always, great observational documentation of this kind of behaviour. DOF is just right as is exposure..perhaps the bowl is a little close to the bottom of the frame? I know, i'm just being picky ;o)
